WHICH IS FASTER ME OR A KAYAK?

July 1, 2012  Dateline: Cape May, NJ USA
Before Christmas last year Rich and Carol picked up a hitch hiker in Panama City, FL and gave him a ride to Carrabelle, FL.  The hitch hiker was named Josh and he started on the Great Loop in Cincinnati, Ohio.   In and of itself starting in Cincinnati is not unique, but the fact that he was doing the Loop alone in a kayak certainly made his travels much more interesting.  Carol and Rich left Josh in Carrabelle and went on their way.  The other day Rich got an email from Josh stating that he would be passing through Cape May on or about June 30 and he was wondering if he could see Rich and of course Carol.  I am not home yet with my 1,400 horse power, but a young man in a kayak with a paddle will be there before me.  It only goes to prove what I have said all along, you meet people on the Loop and then you meet them again and speed has little to do with it.
Before getting to Cape May late Friday night Josh, that day, had paddled 59 miles in the ocean including a crossing of the Delaware Bay.  Josh spent part of the weekend visiting and resting in Cape May before he paddled off on Sunday morning. He indicated that he hopes to make New York City in a week and then be in Albany a week later.
We all wish him well.
Rich, Josh and Carol
